Volunpeer Swarm Discussion Thread (Target Suggestions & Ideas to Improve Swarms)

This thread is dedicated to discussing our weekly volunpeer swarms. Please use it to post your ideas on how to make our swarms better and more effective. You can also use it to suggest new targets, whether they’re exchanges, payment processors or merchants. We try to do one every week, so we’ll need target suggestions to keep things going. If you don’t know what a volunpeer is, read the following.

What is a Volunpeer? If you want to engage in activism to help push Peercoin forward, then become a volunpeer at volunpeer.org! By providing information to us about your interests and skills, as well as a way to contact you, if any Peercoin projects come up that require volunteers from the community, we’ll make sure to get in touch with you about it if we feel you can help out.

We also engage in weekly volunpeer activism called swarms, where we’ll send out an email to all volunpeers with a task to complete, whether it’s contacting an exchange to add Peercoin support, a payment processor, or simply giving your opinion on an important subject. We’ll even throw in some Peercoin related news, so these emails can act as a weekly update for everyone that reads them! Here is an example volunpeer swarm email so you know what to expect before you sign up.

I started this thread so people can help me out with the swarms. I can’t do it all on my own, sorry. In fact, I was too busy this Monday, so I decided to just delay it until next week, since it seems so many people are busy working on different projects. We can give people a break this week.

For the next swarm though, I was thinking about hitting GoCoin’s merchants, as they wanted us to petition them also…

What do you think?

And one other topic for discussion. I believe we got GoCoin to want to add support for us because so many people contacted them. We showed them some real demand last week. I believe this was due to a last minute idea…

http://www.reddit.com/r/peercoin/comments/235mrk/peeeercoins_getcha_peercoins_hereahhh/

I got Yurizhai to alter his intial post to tell people they’d get bonus tips if they helped out with contacting GoCoin. So tipping encouraged others to join in on the swarm, which led to GoCoin deciding to accept us. While this won’t work every time, I believe it will help increase swarm participation. They don’t even have to be an official volunpeer and on our mailing list in order to participate. Maybe we should raise some money for a swarm tip fund?

Edit: I just remembered this on the website: http://www.peercoin.net/projects Look for the social faucet project. Here is the text with it…

Lets automate the swarm process, and actually give users a reason to keep coming back to the Peercoin website. Users can earn crypto by rewarding swarm participants, participating in social media, referring friends to download the client, etc. This is not done anywhere else and it could grow our userbase exponentially."

I’m not sure how outdated this page is or what Super3 has done to further any of these projects. Maybe we should ask him about it?

I can do the tipping for the next one, thanks to NewMoneyEra

GoCoin’s merchants is a good target, I wonder if they have a list of all their merchants.

Also have you seen that GoCoin list Peercoin on their merchant sign-up page? https://www.gocoin.com/merchant_signup
It is still worth pushing them a bit more since they haven’t announced anything official. I actually think it will be one of the biggest news of the year for us if we get on GoCoin.

That’s just what merchants are interested in receiving, not actually what they accept yet, right? I didn’t think Peercoin was live yet on there.

Also, to be honest I don’t know their company very well. Are they a big deal for us besides just getting a payment processor on board? I’m not sure how large or important GoCoin is in the crypto world.

Yes but it shows they are seriously considering Peercoin, not just all talk like some other companies.

I think they are pretty big, possibly the third biggest payment processor behing coinbase and bitpay (http://www.coindesk.com/cryptocurrency-payment-processor-gocoin-gets-1-5m-funding/).

If anyone like Overstock or TigerDirect decides to start accepting altcoins, then they are probably the most likely processor they would use. That’s why I think it is pretty important to make sure we are on it soon.

Another issue for merchant acceptance is that nearly all the Peercoin volume is on btc-e.com. I mean, they are fine for consumers and I have had good experiences with them, but no major company is going to consider using an anonymous exchange. The fact that around 93% of total Peercoin volume is on there is a pretty big problem in my opinion. I’m not sure how we can improve that though.

I’ve noticed that the exchange https://www.mintpal.com/ has quite high volumes for many alts. They have a voting page for adding new coins (https://www.mintpal.com/voting) but there’s obviously not much point even trying with that. They could possibly be a future target with the swarm, as they say that they can add new coins for other reasons outside the voting system.

Cryptsy are currently setting up USD markets, but only for BTC, LTC, DOGE and FTC. Could also be a possible target to get another PPC/USD market.

Are you still willing to do the tipping for this? If so, I’ll probably create a Reddit thread with instructions to post a copy of their email message in the comments and that they’ll receive a tip for doing so. I’ll also direct volunpeers in my email to the reddit thread. Does this sound good or are you unable to tip this week. We should really raise some funds that are dedicated to this.

Yes I can still tip. I don’t need to check anything then, just tip everyone who posts an email? And how much to tip…0.1 or 0.25 ppc ok? As long as it’s only tipping for doing the swarm and not a general giveaway, then I should have plenty in the tipbot.

Yes, you would just tip whoever posts a email. If they post a comment saying they sent an email but don’t copy/paste it in their message, they don’t get anything because they offered no proof. You might have to watch people copying emails other people used as well. As for how much to tip, I think that is best left up to you. I’m not sure how much you have or how many responses we’ll have. I’m going to start putting the information together for this now before I go to work.

Ok post it whenever you want. I can start tipping anytime now.

Here it is! http://www.reddit.com/r/peercoin/comments/24ajyj/volunpeer_swarm_target_gocoins_merchants_earn/

I’m going to target http://www.bitcoinshop.us/ tomorrow, since they seemed to be on the verge of supporting us if GoCoin does. A little push from us shouldn’t hurt…

http://www.reddit.com/r/peercoin/comments/24enon/bitcoinshop_purchases_peercoin_domain_name_wall/

River, do you still want to hand out tips or no? You mentioned MoD giving you Peercoins to tip out right? I don’t want to take advantage of you, so please let me know if we need to raise money specifically for tipping.

Yeah I don’t mind tipping. It was actually NewMoneyEra who gave me them

I should have enough for maybe 2 or 3 more giveaways, possibly more depending on how many people participate. After that, we might have to raise money if we want to continue doing these.

Just a thought, as not many people seemed to participate initially last time, how about including Peercoin Giveaway in the thread title to attract people’s attention. So possibly something like this:

Title: Peercoin Giveaway! Just complete this simple task to get a tip!

Description: To get your Peercoin tip, just follow these steps:

 1. Send a polite and thoughtful email to BitcoinShop at about why they should accept Peercoin. They are a major retailer with over 140,000 items, who already accept Bitcoin, Litecoin, and Dogecoin through the payment processor GoCoin.

 2. Comment in this thread with a copy of the message you sent to BitcoinShop.

 3. You will receive a Peercoin tip.

If you do not follow the instructions completely, you will not receive a tip.

Previous Volunpeer Swarms have encouraged GoCoin to seriously consider adding Peercoin. By showing demand to one of their merchants (BitcoinShop), this should help to further ensure that they will add us. BitcoinShop also recently announced [link to thread] that they have purchased a domain for Peercoin (PeercoinShop.us).

Please also fill out the Volunpeer form to participate in future swarms and receive important Peercoin updates.

This is just a quick example I wrote out. I’m sure you could probably come up with something better so make whatever changes you want. I just think presenting it as a giveaway initially will make it more appealing. Do you agree?

Edit: Could also encourage sending tweets that mention both @BitcoinShopUS and @GoCoin in the same tweet. I can give out another smaller tip for that if necessary.

Ok, the volunpeer swarm for bitcoinshop.us is LIVE! Please upvote…

Ever walk into a Gas Station, a Corner Store, some unexpected place, and see a generic ATM there and use it?

There is a huge competition going on for generic ATM machines and placements. They are all fighting for territory.

If there is going to be a volunpeer swarm, the time is now to think about this avenue.

Priivate “white label” ATM machines nation wide, both in USA and Canada. We should swarm them asking if they will be adding Bitcoin or Peercoin buying or selling to their ATM software. At least let them think of it. they all have huge competition. first one that writes the software can dominate their competition. worthy of a swarm.

They’re first reaction will be “uh, no”.

A few months down the road, they’ll be, uh, there is too much competition in what we’re doing. We need to find a new niche to survive. Oh wait, remember a few months back, we had those people contact us about Peercoin and Bitcoin? Can we incorporate that? That might give us a new edge against our competition.

Examples:

CANADA

http://www.directcash.net/atm-services/products

USA

http://eglobal.com

Please help me with some links to legitimate ATM companies that aren’t bank related…

Is there a way we can help spread word about the release of Peerunity and Peershares so it gets to as many people as possible? Like we do a swarm where people have to tweet and make a Facebook status update about the releases and link to the announcement thread. Then they could provide direct links to their tweets and status updates as proof in a reddit thread and we’ll tip them? Is this possible to do or worth it?

I would prefer to just have a tipping party in celebration, not a swarm. We need some feel-good excitement. I only have enough on reddit to tip about 10 people 0.1 PPC though so others will need to tip too.

Some people would like to see Peercoin on Mintpal: http://www.reddit.com/r/peercoin/comments/27mpyn/do_you_think_its_possible_to_get_mintpal_to_list/

Is it worth targeting them with a swarm, maybe today? I wouldn’t be able to offer tips this time, and it doesn’t need a swarm email if Sentinelrv is busy. Just a quick post on reddit and the forum to get a few emails sent to them.

I’m not sure why they don’t support Peercoin since they seem to support every other coin under the sun…but some more interest may change their mind.

Ok I just posted this: http://www.reddit.com/r/peercoin/comments/27vlmt/lets_get_peercoin_on_mintpal/
