Yeah, it’s on a 4 GB card. I re-imaged and am downloading the blockchain now. Hoping to update tomorrow. Thanks.

Yes, there’s still plenty of tips available ![]()
Great, glad you got it working. That’s a lot of connections ![]()
Tip sent!

Since the beginning of June I have an average of about 55 peers connected to my raspi everyday.
I thought I should mention that I finally took the time to set up my own Raspberry Pi. I’m not going to send a tip to myself though, because that would be weird :))
That means there are now at least 20 new nodes due to this project.
I posted on r/cryptocurrency about this project. Please take a look: http://www.reddit.com/r/CryptoCurrency/comments/28hxr5/peercoin_on_raspberry_pi_get_10_ppc_for_setting/
While the project has been a big success, the frequency of new nodes has slowed a bit recently so we will need to start spreading the word more. I am planning on posting on the Raspberry Pi forums to start with. Any other ideas on how to advertise this would be appreciated, and please feel free to make your own posts on social media etc.
Also, does anyone have a solar-powered Pi? Showing that the Peercoin network could theoretically be powered by the sun would be pretty cool, and a good way to market this.
Gosh, maybe I’ll have to get a Raspberry Pi. I only have Beaglebones.
Peerbox project will cover Beaglebone too, however dev does not have access to Beaglebone so it’s on the wait list.
Is there any way to validate a node from a virtual machine? Because I have a computer that I run 24/7 anyways, which hosts multiple minecraft servers and virtual machines, some for friends, and one is a node for another coin’s p2pool network. I’d definitely go through the trouble of setting up a node for the tip, but we’d need a way to verify… Would a screenshot of my entire screen (VM plus whatever else is on the screen) suffice? I’d show the wallet and maybe you could use my IP/mac address or something to verify?
Idk, just an idea. The computer’s on all the time anyways, so might as well give it some more work to do lol
Edit: Actually I just came across a great idea. If I use Ubuntu or something of the like, I can allow you to teamviewer into the computer and actually look at the node operating on your screen. Would this work?

I think the tip is reserved for raspberry pi installations only

Yeah, but every extra node helps

Hi birdonwheels5, thanks for joining the forum and thanks to bigreddmachine for posting about this on the reddcoin subreddit. As IndigoMan said, this tip is for Raspberry Pi only.
However, your post interested me as I have been thinking about the possibility of potentially expanding this project to cover other types of nodes in the future. I have never used teamviewer though and don’t have much time to look into it, so if you can give me full instructions about what to do and it works out well, then I would be happy to give you the tip out of my own pocket (outside this RPi project). This would just be an experiment and I can’t guarantee tips to anyone else for similar things. Let me know what you think.
Also, if anyone else has any thoughts about whether this would verify the node to a satisfactory degree, then please post your thoughts.

Sure, I am open to showing you how to use TeamViewer. It’s easy, really. You download it from http://www.teamviewer.com/en/download/windows.aspx, and once you install (or you can set it to run only once, without installing) you need the virtual machine’s ID and password. I’ll be giving you the ID and pass, and once you enter them in, you have control of the computer. However, I can still control it as well. When you connect, I’ll have the wallet running and whatever else is needed.
About the installation… I was reading the guide for the raspberry pi, and all the first part is, is setting up the peercoin daemon. Is this correct? After that I just need to forward the appropriate ports, and it will be a full node? I’m just asking so that if we do this, I won’t waste your time when you connect
I’ll use a different wallet on my main computer (separate machine) for keeping my actual coins.

No, don’t do it. It is is impossible to verify. What TeamViewer, don’t fool around people.
I can get 10 tips for “running” a node by 22:00, set up virtual machine, post pictures… teamviewer… river333 pays up. New forum account, new VPS, new “node”, river333 pays up. Repeat.
Beside this being totally wrong and dishonest it does not actually help the network. Since it’s not about 50nodes on one server farm it is about 50 nodes over area size of Texas, or Brazil.

Ok thanks peerchemist, I think you’re probably right. Had doubts but just hoping for a new way because I’m getting tons of requests to allow non-RPi nodes. Birdonwheels5, I suppose it will have to wait until someone comes up with a better method of verification. The same cheat would be possible to some extent now but there’s no point making it easier.

I guess that those R-Pi nodes aren’t set up for minting purposes.
In that case it looks quite simple: create obfuscated, closed R-Pi soft listening on port 80 and proudly promoting tip4peer project and advertising payer’s businesses.
Edit: our IPs are known to the board moderators, ask them to check if node is active

possible some future feature of the peerbox OS, with the option to turn it on/off, don’t know if this is really needed, but it is useful for gathering statistics for people that want to participate (and get the 10 PPC reward if that project is still extended in the future), this would actually be a feature built only for the tipping project … and some added statistics , so I don’t know if it is a high priority, depends on how big the PPC for running a fullnode tipping project is going to be… (if peerbox devices are accepted through this feature, my guess is there could be much interest) , still looking for more developers also
edit: was thinking a while back about the option for having some icon on the forum profile when node is active, maybe this is possible because Fuzzy knows our ip’s and check if there is a full node , just add a fullnode symbol, but I guess not everybody is online from the same IP as the node… , probably have to check everytime people go online … gets expensive i imagine
