It’s a division of XPM.

m = milli = 0,001 XPM
µ = micro = 0,000001 XPM

The wallet I have will not let me sent a uXPM without a .01 XPM fee. Why does it cost so much to send through the network?

To avoid spam transactions and blockchain bloating. 0.01 XPM = 0.002 USD at current rates. So much, really?

Then why even have mXPM or uXPM?

Futureproofing in case the price of XPM follow that of Bitcoin 8)
It is probably just legacy from the original Bitcoin client, don’t think too much of it.

So in the future, when it’s worth 1000, and I want to send 10 bucks, it’s going to cost me 10.

Correct, but I suspect that by that time the fees will be adjusted and if not it would only be used for large payments.

Similar calculations apply to bitcoin at the moment, but with smaller figures.
BTC core developers announced dynamic fees. Something XPM could implement aswell.
