Wallet has 0 active connections :( Will not update

I posted yesterday because I was getting the same result when I installed the wallet: “0 active connection/s to PPCoin network”. Most of my other coin wallets work: BTC, LTC, NMC and the old PPC Wallet I installed early in 2013. Unless you’re a technical geek or computer scientist, who has time to tinker with this? I give up. I’ll come back sometime in the future when all the bugs are worked out.

This was pretty crazy re installed it on the E: drive and it magically worked after I put in the .conf file id been using before… I should get paid some peercoin by them for the trouble… rofl they should really make the .conf file default and let you change the user/pass

My address is PUADnYzByxSXzQZnfZhGsLZVkgj7si1MPo and finally all synced up in case anyone wants to give me a lil to see how it works.

Anyways I’m thinking of mining and minting peercoin. I have Cuda miner, my gtx480 is overclocked and gets about 234kh/s. How much will this mine? Is it worth it? Any good pools?

Any help getting me started minting and mining would be great

Hey realypk,

For Peercoin you need an ASIC Miner since Peercoin uses SHA256 and not the Scrypt algorithm to secure its network. Theoretically you could mine Peercoins with your GPU but the electricity cost is higher than the reward. Peercoin is not only about mining it is about being the energy efficient cryptocurrency. The mining is very different to other coins since Peercoins uses Proof of Work mining (the mining with graphics cards and ASICs) but also the Proof of Stake mining (this is mining when you already own coins with a return rate of 1% per year). The Proof of Work mining has the purpose to distribute initially the coins to different people and will decline the more people are using their GPUs and ASICs to mine. The Proof of Stake mining has the purpose to keep up creation of the blocks for the blockchain. The combination of Proof of Work and Proof of Stake make the Peercoin cryptcocurrency more secure against mining attacks e.g. if a mining pool owns over 51 % of the hashpower and it is also more energy efficient. The energy efficiency is important since we do not want cryptocurrency to be a large CO2 polluter in the future when the market capitalization rises (as it happened for Bitcoin).

Cheers,
Centaure

How do i do Proof of Stake mining?

Proof of stake minting is basically as simple as a walletpassphrase command passed in from the console.

it will take a long time unless you have alot of ppc though.

glad you were able to get it working.

Yea I have none… seems like i missed the bus on the mining part of this one.

How much would you say one would need before it’s “worth while” ?

this is my current understanding, but im still not 100% clear:

its about 1% yearly no matter how much you have, but it takes thousands to get a tiny chunk of that on a monthly or every other monthly basis. a small amount you’re honestly probably better off just letting sit in a cold wallet gaining coin age. then when you go to turn on proof of stake youll get it all at once.

unless you have like 50 - 100, the 1% yearly isnt much right now, but if you wanna speculate that it will be, then it might benefit you to run proof of stake and try to let that tiny bit compound every year… but i guess thats kind of a judgement call.

I really am interested in investing into PPC, but I find this “out-of-the-box” setup difficult. I’ve read many similar threads to this and I’m not sure what do to. I will wait a few hours like a few did, but I’m not sure that will work.

I am running iOS 10.6.8 and am not entirely sure how to navigate this laptop as I would by PC, but my PC is in bad shape at the moment.

Any dumb-downed walkthrough in order to fix my 0 connections would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

rwaz

Hi Guys

my wallet is not syncing either. I have read the forums and done the following. Primecoin, Bitcoin and LC wallets all sync fine

I have created a file ppcoin.conf in the ppcoin folder and have added the following. Its still no syncing. Map using UPnp is ticked in options. Any ideas

** I fixed. It was a simple error on my part. I created the .conf file with notepad and it was a text document. I resaved as .conf with notepad and it worked**

i am having a similar problem on my mac osx lion 10.7.5

i stupidly sent 21 ppc coins to the wallet before it synced but now i have this message

warning checkpoint is too old, wait for blockchain to download etc

only problem is it’s not loading…0 blocks

i hope my coins aren’t in limbo and lost?

any ideas how to fix? thankx

Just getting in my second post so I ask someone for one on one help to get my wallet working. Been trying for four days now.

i have 21 coins in limbo:(

can’t find mac instructions…i have found the windows fix

Ok, I took some time with this and figured it out. I know very little about computers/programming, all I did was follow instructions. It might take some google searches, but you’ll get it working.

make sure wallet is closed while you do this

  1. Open command prompt (windows search -> cmd)

  2. Type this

start %appdata%

  1. You should be in the “roaming” folder. Find ppcoin folder

  2. Right click inside the folder and create a new text document. I used notepad

  3. Copy + Paste this into text document

  4. Save file as “ppcoin.conf”. You need to have the “” when you save, otherwise your file will save as ppcoin.conf.txt. This is where I kept going wrong

  5. Ok, now try to open

I am patiently waiting Mac instructions myself.

If you follow steps 1 through 5 of my Mac stake minting guide, you’ll be set up with a working ppcoin.conf file.

THIS! Thank you!

EXACTLY what I needed. I am not successfully syncing. Thank you!

now the question is…when will my wallet update? it’s been around 16 hours and my coins still aren’t showing up in my wallet

you added all those peers and you aren’t synced up yet?

I have to go to work right now but if you’re still having issues tonight I can see if there’s anything I can do to help.

The only time ppcoin.conf gets read, is when the ppcoind program starts. (If it is already running, it doesn’t check ppcoin.conf anymore)

Try doing a ./ppcoind stop (wait 10 seconds) and then do: ./ppcoind

This should stop and re-start the daemon.

Also, there is a file called “debug.log” that contains helpful information. Verify that is indeed trying those nodes you’ve added.

If ppcoind isn’t reading the ppcoin.conf file correctly, or it isn’t finding it in the first place, this would explain the problem.

Also, ppcoin uses IRC on port 6667 to find other peers. Be sure that you, and your ISP do not have TCP 6667 blocked from any firewall or router.
