Wallet has 0 active connections :( Will not update

Hi guys I am too a new to Peercoin and my wallet shows no connections etc however long it is on. I followed your instructions of making a conf file - and please excuse me as i don’t know anything about codes etc, now i take it is a regular windows file (yellow folder thing) and added it where you said however i dont know how to add the nodes to the file, i can’t copy and paste, i have taken off read only but i just don’t know how to get the nodes in there to get some/any sort of connection. I have Bitcoin and Litecoin and they were up and connected quickly, my firewall isn’t blocking the port etc so i am at a loss and please forgive my lack of tech knowledge but how in laymen’s terms can i get this thing to connect?

Thanks illuminatus, that seemed to work for me! windows was spitting feathers a couple of times but eventually accepted it as a conf file and has connected!

And for the people who really struggle to start and stop services as described above, you can just reboot your PC. It will also cause to reread the config file assuming you already managed to make one.

you added all those peers and you aren’t synced up yet?

I have to go to work right now but if you’re still having issues tonight I can see if there’s anything I can do to help.
no, my wallet synced but my coins haven’t appeared in my wallet yet. it’s been almost 2 days now. they are appearing in the wallet address on the blockchain explorer but not in my wallet

that does sound peculiar. i assume you’ve double checked the addresses in your client to make sure you have the correct .dat file for the address you sent your coin to?

ive seen the block explorer take forever to update for a paper wallet, but never seen a hot wallet fail to be ahead of the block explorer…

yeah, it’s the right one. the address on the client matches the wallet address on the blockchain explorer holding the coins

try restarting ppcoin-qt with -rescan flag

this worked, thank you

you’re welcome :slight_smile:
Ok, I took some time with this and figured it out. I know very little about computers/programming, all I did was follow instructions. It might take some google searches, but you’ll get it working.

make sure wallet is closed while you do this

  1. Open command prompt (windows search -> cmd)

  2. Type this

start %appdata%

  1. You should be in the “roaming” folder. Find ppcoin folder

  2. Right click inside the folder and create a new text document. I used notepad

  3. Copy + Paste this into text document
    addnode=66.90.146.146
    addnode=91.156.102.128
    addnode=110.174.124.20

  4. Save file as “ppcoin.conf”. You need to have the “” when you save, otherwise your file will save as ppcoin.conf.txt. This is where I kept going wrong

  5. Ok, now try to open
I had the same problem and this worked for me.

Will these changes be added to (updated with) the client that everyone downloads and installs so the non-geeks can easily have a PPC functioning wallet?

yes new seed nodes have been added to the official repo and I have builds with new seed nodes in here http://builds.peercointalk.org

Fuzzybear

I have a problem. I installed the Peercoin wallet on my iMac. Once opened, I saw no indication of block chain downloading in the bottom left. Nothing was there at all. Assuming then that it must have been a lite client that didn’t require a block chain (how am I to know without an indication?) I went ahead and withdrew my 10 Peercoins from Cryptsy into the receiving address of my wallet.

That’s when my wallet decided to indicate the following to me in the bottom left:

WARNING: Checkpoint is too old. Wait for block chain to download, or notify developers of the issue.

Please tell me there is a way to fix this and that I didn’t just throw 10 peer coins away into the void. That would be quite upsetting for my faith in this project

You’re okay jared, just keep the client running a hour or two :stuck_out_tongue:

The official client downloads the entire blockchain. You don’t see the transaction show up in the wallet until it has the section of the blockchain you sent the transaction on.

Jaredboice,

You should not be concerned that you sent 10 PPC “into the void”, because they’re stored in the block chain, so you’ll be able to pull them down once you’ve been able to synchronize the block chain on your wallet.

If you leave the wallet application open on your Mac for a little while, it should start to connect to Peercoin network nodes (other user’s clients, who are helping to propagate transactions across the network) and then synchronize with the block chain. If that doesn’t appear to be happening after an hour or so (an that’s at the very extreme edge), I can assist you in adding a configuration file with active network nodes in it that will let you overcome that challenge.

Ideally (and usually), the software would auto-connect to nodes in the network, but occasionally we’ve seen that it isn’t updating correctly.

Let me know what you see and please post a comment to keep us informed on what happens so I can follow-up with you.

For anyone who reads this thread and is curious how it works, a rough diagram of what’s happening when you first set up your wallet client on your computer may be useful:

All Peercoin transaction records, since the beginning of the network, where @ is your 10 PPC transfer from Cryptsy:
Day 1 =======================================================@= Right now

When you first start to synchronize your wallet to the block chain, it thinks it is:
Day 1 =======================================================@= Right now
^

When you reach a point of synchronization:
Day 1 =======================================================@= Right now
==============================================================^

Here’s a super-simplification of what’s happening when you conduct a transaction in the Peercoin network:
The coins you sent aren’t actually in your wallet, they exist as records in the block chain. What your wallet is really doing is interpreting transactions in the block chain and when it recognizes one that matches an address that it knows it owns, and when the public key on that transaction is validated against the private keys stored in the wallet, that it flags those coins as yours.

I noticed that if initially it gets a bad node, it will keep on trying that bad one for such a long time. Every time I run into this, I restart and remove addr.dat . if still not work for a couple times, its time to addnode on ppcoin.conf . Not sure why it never bothered me on bitcoinqt, is it because there are more bitcoin fullnode?

Hello, I have done everything that it says in this forum and I still can’t get it to connect. what else am I missing?
