Very cool to see another peercoin pi installed! :pbjt:
The full node is pretty safe, as by default there is no sshd or any other remote access service running. You can keep your raspbian software up to date with the ‘update my pi software’ icon, this starts sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get -y upgrade
To setup I have running is 2 pi’s, one is minting with my actual wallet, and acts as a full node only within my home network. The other is acting as a full node with port forwarding. This way incoming connections will always connect with the empty wallet, so not much can go wrong.
This was a really cool project. I’ve been thinking about getting into Peercoin, but since it is so hard to mine for a normal guy with just a PC, I have been trying out other coins instead. I was looking for a help guide on doing something like this for another coin, and was pleasantly surprised to find this opportunity from a simple google search. I tend to be a redditor, so you will probably see me more there than here, but I hope to become a somewhat active member of the community.
Here are my pictures of my Pi and my Pi’s desktop. While this was a little harder to complete than I expected, as usual with an R-Pi project I feel like I learned quite a bit along the way! I hope that we are able to get safely minting on a full node sorted out, as this would be awesome!
Thanks for the tip! I confirmed that I received it when I got home from work today. I am going to spend some more time looking into minting on the Pi =)
Also, trying to get my friend to give this a shot - he fiddles with his Raspberry Pi a decent bit but hasn’t gotten into Bitcoin/Peercoin/etc yet. Sounded interested so we’ll see if he posts here!
I think that the site has been down for some time. I have sent a e-mail to the site explaining the problem. I’m sure it won’t hurt if more people do that. The e-mail address is: bitinfocharts@gmail.com
Definitely, the blockchain confirmation step is crucial.
However, you can do this process on any machine and copy the result anywhere, i.e. the data directory with all files and sub-directories. Just have a look at https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Data_directory. For Peercoin you will find a analogous structure.
In our case make sure
[ul][li]you’re running the same version on all machines, e.g. ppc-0.4.0[/li]
[li]you kill any ppcoind process that lock the database. In particular you should not have started the 2nd part of Tea42 guidelines after which the peercoin daemon will be restarted automatically[/li]
[li]you don’t copy/overwrite your wallet.dat unless you know what you do[/li][/ul]
For reference you may search for “Bitcoin transfer blockchain”.
oopsy i didnt see the word ‘bitcoin’ there For ppc its about 6 hours i think (not 100% sure, can be longer), so for btc… 6 * 22 / 0,3 = 440 hours? at least…
