Peershares can easily be converted to distribute dividend payments in other cryptocurrencies, but Peercoin was chosen as the default because of its role as a strong backbone currency and long-term store of value.
River, how about this then…

If it sounds too much like “marketing speak” then someone will just delete it. That’s what happened when I copied stuff over from the website. For now I just changed it to “Automated dividend distribution with Peercoin or other cryptocurrency” and removed it as a disadvantage.
By the way, I just realized that one of the people making false edits about Peershares seems to be a counterparty lead dev*. He hasn’t disputed anything after I changed them back though. edit: *possibly
Well yeah, I think so. Maybe I shouldn’t have brought it up. These things are bound to happen when you open up a wiki to rival cryptos. I’m sure Overstock must realize this. It’s just kind of petty. Anyway, It’s fixed now.

I only half-understand this thread, but want to say that I think River is right with his above judgement
It seems like this was worthwhile for drawing attention to Peershares. Even some in the Bitshares community think Peershares is a better fit for Overstock

On 6 October the second Peershares-based implementation after Nubits will be announced by Overstock. Dividends will be paid in Peercoins. Overstock will accept NuBits on the same date.
One can dream 8)
Is there anybody who keep in touch with Overstock on behalf of Peershares?
I heard that even 3I(BTSX) developer bet on Peershares win Overstock.
I don’t think they would want to be the first ones to try it out though. Isn’t the way NuBits handles it far different from the standard Peershares implementation? It’s mixed in with a lot of other stuff, so I don’t know. Overstock would just use a single blockchain, without all the NuBits stuff attached.
Byrne said that while he had considered other platforms, he ultimately felt that the Counterparty team and its underlying use of the bitcoin protocol provided the best opportunity to bring his ideas to light.
“The block chain has been pounded on by all these hackers around the world,” he said. “It’s the most secure.”
Wow, a rather surprising lack of insight here… did Byrne not get the memos on Heartbleed and Shellshock? I have the utmost respect for Bitcoin developers, but I think it’s a bit foolhardy to just assume there’s a lot of “pounding” going that automatically makes Bitcoin’s blockchain the most secure.
Oh well, a corporate buyout of Peershares is not something I would have liked to have seen anyway.
