Need help with wallet

Hello, i have searched all kinds of websites for two days, but without a solution. i had bought peercoin at the end of 2017 and saved it on the peercoin wallet. i also saved the wallet file on a usb stick at that time. a password for peercoin is also stored in my documents. since my pc broke down a while ago, i bought a new one and downloaded the peercoin wallet and clicked on restore. everything worked fine, but it asked for a passphrase. since i only have one password for peercoin wallet, i typed it in, but it wasn’t accepted. does anyone know what the problem is or has the same problem? please help, thank you !

have you minted any coin after 2017?

hello, thank you for your feedback. i am not sure if i have minted the ppc, can you see that in the wallet ?
best regards

If your wallet password was not accepted it is simply the wrong password.

Thank you for your feedback. i have already tried several passwords, unfortunately without success. if i can’t find the password, are the peercoin lost or can i get the coins with the wallet file in another way?

You won’t be able to access the coins without a password.

hello thank you very much for all the feedback. i have one more concern, i hope not to disturb you further afterwards. i have now downloaded the blockchain from reddcoin. the passphrase does not work there either. i had copied and paste the passwords for peercoin and reddcoin and saved them in the usb document and on paper. does anyone know what the reason for this could be? the amount is very small, so it is already written off. i am only interested in what could be the reason for this
many thanks in advance

Well, the simplest explanation is that you saved a wrong password.

Hi Sven,

you could do the following:
If you are on windows, go to c:\users\yourname\appdata\roaming\peercoin. If you can’t find the appdata folder, activate to show hidden directories. This directory is where the blockchain, wallet and some other files are stored. Delete all files in the directory, and then copy your old wallet.dat file from 2017 into the empty directory.
You should then be able to run the Peercoin software and see your balance.

However, to use your balance, you need to decrypt your wallet with your password. Note that you have got unlimited attempts to decrypt it, so you can try as long as you like.

Greetings,
Assistance needed.
Before installing the latest update I tried to make a wallet backup but it ended up in a fatal error.
Here’s what I did: I hit the “backup wallet” button and tried to save the dat. file to my desktop - but it crashed with an error (screen attached).
Any ideas why this might be happening? And what should I do to successfully make a backup? Thanks in advance for your help.

@7veter1
Just backup wallet.dat manually and upgrade, try saving to different directory that process has permissions to write to

You can always try to run the same version of the wallet that you were running back then, use that password and if that works just dumpprivkey of the address that has your coins.

By your description its possible you were using peerunity wallet. Not sure if its compatible with our official wallet.
