Why Bitcoin needs a reference specification

If bitcoin had a specification, and had to be approved by some kind of governance group, the enterprise corporations could pack the group and and freeze or stagnate development.

Bitcoin would be moving away from the vision of running “by consensus”, which allowed it to move quickly in response to attacks.

This article sounds like someone who is annoyed they can’t retrain corporate devs to code bitcoin nodes.

The current state of things would be like the Apache Foundation telling everyone that an HTTP server is whatever Apache does. If you want to write a different HTTP server, it better be “bug for bug” compatible with Apache.

basically
