Weekly Update #123

[ul][li]Mike is now code complete with the backend of the cold-minting feature. The feature allows for minting with special mint-only key, while the corresponding spending key can be stored in a cold wallet. This safeguards the coins of a minting wallet from hackers who gain unauthorized access to user’s system.[/li]
[li]The feature will be under review and testing in the following weeks.[/li][/ul]

Happy New Year!

great news, cant wait for the cold minting feature to be released

Any update/word on Primecoin before the end of the year?

happy new year

The end of the year has already happened, but let me take a stab at it.

Prime numbers will survive the end of 2014 and the end of 2015, and even the end of 2025

Prime numbers are mathematical facts. They can’t be disputed.

Primecoin, even though you can’t buy a house with Primecoin today, it’s creation suggests you may be able to buy a house a few years from now if it is adopted and accepted.

Primecoin has broken World Records, again and again. No other crypto coin has broken world records. Primecoin has proven to be sustainable and scalable. The ONLY thing it doesn’t have is adoption.

Primecoin isn’t flawed. It’s inherently solid.

The problem with Primecoin is:

a) It’s lacking adoption

b) It’s lacking marketing

…that’s basically it. Sunny King creates these solid cryptocoins, it’s up to the community or public at large to utilize them.

So in answer to your question:

Yes. Primecoin will continue to have a blockchain, it will continue to break world records for the longest prime number, and it will continue to be on github and developed as necessary. However the “price” of primecoin will be up to the public to establish and Sunny King (the creator) has no part in that…

Txs ppcman for your answer

Congratulations! :pbjt: to Mike!

This is a HUGE advance for the Peercoin protocol!

Great Thanks to Sigmike!

yes, an advantage for a short time since all the other POS coins will use it sooner or later

It’s an improvement for enhancing the security of block chains that are protected by PoS.
So it’s good - for Peercoin and other concepts that rely on PoS, especially if being forked from Peercoin!
While I believe in the superiority of PoS over PoW for some time (due to the economical incentives for securing the block chain), I also believe there are things that need to be improved.
This feature is an improvement which can help to increase the minting rate.
And as we know a higher minting rate means a higher level of block chain security!
