Wallet will not connect to PPC network

My PPCoin wallet will not connect to the PPC Network to download all the blocks. I use BitCoin and LiteCoin and neither of those have had issues connecting and updating. I have tried several different networks and multiple computers with no luck. Any ideas as to what this might be? Several hours have gone by and nothing has happened.

Hi, sa_sterling.

A couple of questions for you, to help figure out what’s going on.

[ul][li]What operating system do you use on the computer that PPCoin-QT is installed on (Windows, OS X, Linux, etc.)?[/li]
[li]Have you set up a ppcoin.conf file yet?[/li][/ul]

If your answer to the second question is “yes”, you may want to check this topic thread to see some of the settings that I’ve had success with in the past: http://www.peercointalk.org/index.php?topic=769.msg9618#msg9618

Hi, Ben

I am using windows 7

I had not setup the ppcoin.conf file at the time of the posting but now I have. I have run into another problem when trying to run the ppcoind program. Attached is a .jpeg of my PPCoin.conf file open with my user and password entered, and a screen shot of the error while running the ppcoind program.

Okay well it will not process the attachment…

this is what i put in the PPCoin.conf file:

ppcoin.conf configuration file. Lines beginning with # are comments.

Network-related settings:

Run on the test network instead of the real bitcoin network.

#testnet=0

Connect via a socks4 proxy - default none

#proxy=127.0.0.1:9050

Quick Primer on addnode vs connect

Let’s say for instance you use addnode=4.2.2.4

addnode will connect you to and tell you about the

nodes connected to 4.2.2.4. In addition it will tell

the other nodes connected to it that you exist so

they can connect to you.

connect will not do the above when you ‘connect’ to it.

It will only connect you to 4.2.2.4 and no one else.##

So if you’re behind a firewall, or have other problems

finding nodes, add some using ‘addnode’.

If you want to stay private, use ‘connect’ to only

connect to “trusted” nodes.

If you run multiple nodes on a LAN, there’s no need for

all of them to open lots of connections. Instead

‘connect’ them all to one node that is port forwarded

and has lots of connections.

Thanks goes to [Noodle] on Freenode.

Use as many addnode= settings as you like to connect to specific peers

#addnode=69.164.218.197
#addnode=10.0.0.2:8333

… or use as many connect= settings as you like to connect ONLY

to specific peers:

#connect=69.164.218.197
#connect=10.0.0.1:8333

Maximum number of inbound+outbound connections.

#maxconnections=

JSON-RPC options (for controlling a running Bitcoin/bitcoind process)

server=1 tells Bitcoin-QT to accept JSON-RPC commands.

#server=0

You must set rpcuser and rpcpassword to secure the JSON-RPC api

rpcuser= WTF
rpcpassword= WTFx100

How many seconds bitcoin will wait for a complete RPC HTTP request.

after the HTTP connection is established.

#rpctimeout=30

By default, only RPC connections from localhost are allowed. Specify

as many rpcallowip= settings as you like to allow connections from

other hosts (and you may use * as a wildcard character):

rpcallowip=127.0.0.1
rpcallowip=192.168.1.*

Listen for RPC connections on this TCP port:

rpcport=9902

You can use ppcoind to send commands to ppcoind

running on another host using this option:

rpcconnect=127.0.0.1

Use Secure Sockets Layer (also known as TLS or HTTPS) to communicate

with ppcoind

#rpcssl=1

OpenSSL settings used when rpcssl=1

#rpcsslciphers=TLSv1+HIGH:!SSLv2:!aNULL:!eNULL:!AH:!3DES:@STRENGTH
#rpcsslcertificatechainfile=server.cert
#rpcsslprivatekeyfile=server.pem

Miscellaneous options

Set gen=1 to attempt to generate ppcoins using built-in CPU mining

#gen=1

Use SSE instructions to try to generate bitcoins faster.

#4way=1

Pre-generate this many public/private key pairs, so wallet backups will be valid for

both prior transactions and several dozen future transactions.

#keypool=100

Pay transaction fee amount per kilo-byte. Default 0.01 (1 cent)

Minimum required 0.01 (1 cent)

#paytxfee=0.01

Allow direct connections for the ‘pay via IP address’ feature.

#allowreceivebyip=1

And the ppcoind.exe program says:

Error: To use ppcoind, you must set a rpcpassward in the configuration file:
C:------------------------------------------------------------------------------- #which is exactly where I put it
It is recommended you use the following random password: #then it goes on saying what to put as username and PW and to create the file if it does not exist.

If that is not SPAM then I don’t know what is. I checked it out anyways. Good prices, Domain registered by some guy in Japan, website created 3 days ago, phone number is a flirt hotline, and seems like a SCAM SCAM SCAM. Stay clear of this site litekoin.com for now.

My wallet is also not connecting to the network? did you ever figure out how to fix this??

What’s the message that you are seeing in the wallet, batosdannyboy? Depending on what it is, I’ll help you with troubleshooting.

Also, what type of computer is it running on? Windows, Mac, Linux?

Windows 8, its not giving me any message, it just shows 0 active connections to PPC network

We should be able to fix that. What we need to do is to tell the client what nodes to connect to.

I’m not familiar with navigation in Windows 8, yet, but here’s how you would do it in Windows 7.

[ul][li]Open up the Windows Start Menu and search for %appdata%[/li]
[li]Windows explorer will open up to your “Roaming” folder. Inside this folder is another one called PPCoin. Open that, next.[/li]
[li]Create a new file called ppcoin.conf. Make sure you save it as a .conf file, and not as .txt.[/li]
[li]In to the ppcoin.conf file, paste the following:[/li][/ul]

Once you’ve included that configuration file, and told the app where to find other nodes, it should be begin to download the block chain.

Let me know how it goes for you, and if you have any other questions.

got it, thank you and happy hunting!

I never did get it to work until today. My computer was acting weird overall so I did a complete restore of the factory image. After that I installed the peercoin wallet and it connected and is now undating. Thanks for all whom helped.
