Good article. The idea of “one miner per government-issued ID” is an interesting one.

Mike Hearn once came up with this thing he called “proof of passport”. It was a while back (Bitcoin time) and I couldn’t find the source of the original article, but I found this reddit response to the idea, which is kind of interesting read: http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/1w34ov/4_new_bitcoin_features_revealed_by_core_developer/ceygi18

EDIT: In Mike’s defense I believe I’ve heard him address the matter in an interview where he said something down the line, that it wasn’t a “real suggestion” but rather kind of something that he just said and not something that he had been thinking seriously about for any longer period of time.

EDIT 2: Hm, sometimes I wonder if I spend to much time on these kinds of things. Hmm ???
