Psst, PPC is 2 years in August, don't tell any further, looking for a present

Hey guys,

Just like to let you know the Peercoin blockchain will be two years old soon. Exact date of birth is: 12 August 2012, 17:57:38 UTC according to the wiki.

So I thought it would be good to throw some marketing at it. There are some ideas floating around, but it really comes back to your participation. So we love to hear the ideas from the community. Don’t think it is too big or too small, I think it is worth making a bit of a splash around this as age is good thing for blockchains. It shows longetivity and security. And therefore probably a good time to release a press release about its age and all the other news floating around.

Looking forward to your ideas/presents for Peercoin’s 2nd anniversary.

August 12? This post clearly says that it was launched August 19. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=101820.0 Sunny King: “PPCoin block chain is up and running and officially started at 2012-08-19 18:00:00 UTC.”

Does anyone know the full story behind this?

Maybe the difference between anouncement and actual start of blockchain?

Maybe someone can pull the date of the first block? My research is confirming the 19th as the correct date.

is the time stamp from the first block.

Ok, thanks for digging into that. I’m convinced it is a week later. The wiki Peercoin - Wikipedia says date of introduction. I agree that date of first block is more appropriate. So the date is 19 August. That gives us a week more to prepare.

Any ideas guys?

Added for posterity:

Sprite’s Peercoin Medallions are pretty sweet. I’ll be doing a video review of them shortly. Perhaps some kind of Marketing Fund-sponsored medallion giveaway would be a fun event for the 2-year PPC birthday.

Thanks Chronos

I like that one, as I ordered a few myself. I also like the wooden cold wallets. The trouble is that we or at least someone will need people’s addresses to send the item to and not everyone in this community is keen on sharing that.

Will keep this on our sleeves, hope we get more ideas to pull from. They don’t have to be mutually excluded. We might use them all.

Good idea, if somebody don’t want to share his address he could get 10 PPC instead.

hZti, if we just do “Share your public key and receive 10 PPC,” we would get a few too many requests! I could spin up a couple hundred addresses myself, for the occasion. ::slight_smile:

If we add the rule: only 1 submission per account (bitcointalk, peercointalk or reddit) and the account must be older than 7.6.14 it would be pretty fair i think.
But we could also say if you don’t want to share your address to receive the coin you can’t enter the competition. (my favorite, because a physical coin is special and you can also use the address of your work, neighbor or whatever)
