Is it just me, or does it seem like sometimes the volume doesn’t exactly match with when the price changes. It looks like sometimes the volume is off by one column. some of the bars with a lot of movement show no volume. Maybe they are miss-aligned?

It is very simple to implement. For example if it is for XPM/BTC in http://dc-charts.com/depth_xpm.php?ex=0&cu=0&sw=0&dl=1&sc=0 , Just substitute the y coordinate from summing up the “amount” (in XPM) to summing up the “volumn” (in BTC). Both columns are shown in the table below your plot so you already have the numbers.
It shows how much base currency would change hand to reach a certain depth.
