For those who haven’t been following along, the Peerunity theme competition is now over. There were two entries by the same person. You can view them in the links below…
By themselves, I didn’t feel they were good enough to use, so I decided to try altering them myself. I merged the two designs and along with some influence from the Mastercoin wallet, I came up with the following wallet design. It’s meant to capture all the Peercoin related colors, light, dark, green and gold, similar to our subreddit. If there was a general consensus that this design was good, we’d reach out to the original designer and see if he could build it for us to use in v0.2 of Peerunity. If it’s not good enough and you think you can alter it, or make it better, please do so in this thread.
NOTE: In my design below, there are two things missing. The “Recent Transactions” text is not the right size font, because there was a green box covering it. The send/receive symbols are also not included next to the recent transactions. There’s only so much I can do using Paint. Please let us know what you think so we can determine a course of action.
Obviously it’s a lot better than nothing, but I can’t say I’m a huge fan… It’s just too dark and broody, I don’t get good feelings looking at it. I really like the theme on Reddit, maybe because there is so much white to contrast it. Maybe take a pic with a different desktop background? Peercoin should be friendly and bright like it’s future.
Maybe lighten up the grey a little bit, now I see it on the blue background. I still like it and as said by others, it is good enough to start with.
Another thing which came to mind is that there is no difference in color or size between balance and all the other numbers. I would slightly emphasize the balance, either with a colour (green?), underline, bold or size. Balance is the first thing you want to know usually.
Cybnate, I took your advice and made the “Balance” stand out more by making it green. I also made a separate version with a lighter shade of gray, although I don’t think it looks as good. I much prefer the darker shade of gray. I tried to add in the Peerunity text logo as well, but I just couldn’t find a spot where it would fit.
I think it looks quite nice, good job. I prefer the lighter version.
Only thing that bothers me is the green outline for the wallet and transaction boxes, that always bothers me on the standard clients as well. The lack of symmetry in the height of the boxes bothers me, and the simple fact that they’re outlined as well.
I’d prefer to have a single divider in the middle between the two boxes rather than the whole outline. This divider would run the whole height of the window, with a maybe ~10px padding on each end.

You’re right. That was really bothering me as well, but I couldn’t figure out how to solve it. I tried removing the green borders completely, but then it looked too plain looking. This looks much better and allows us to keep the green in there…

A personal pet-peeve of mine, but I’ve never seen a reason for including a big icon there (a la Dogecoin’s wallet). If we feel that something needs to go there, I would recommend trying it with a Peerunity icon “watermark” (very light screen of the logo, in greyscale).

A watermark of the logo and a watermark of the Peerunity tekst under sounds good
Sorry guys, I was slammed at work today and didn’t get a chance to get on until now. I tried adding the Peercoin text logo in a couple spots. At the very top in the middle and at the bottom right. About the one on the bottom right, I’m not sure if putting it there would block any kind of text. You guys would know better on that one. I tried adding it below the number of transactions and unconfirmed, but I felt it looked a little out of place. Do you guys think either of these look good, or should we just leave out the text logo?
I like it at the top. The bottom bar is more for status and updates. Don’t think the logo belongs their unless it is being used to reflect some status of the wallet.
Did you try the watermarking of the logo in the left gray area as Ben suggested? Paint might not support that, so maybe a bit hard to mock-up quickly. I don’t think it will work as it will look orphaned or out of balance from a design perspective.

Yeah, I’m not sure how to do that with Paint. This is the limit of my abilities with graphic design, unfortunately. I need to know what other people think as well. Should I keep the text logo at the top of the client, or should I just leave it out completely? What do you think is best for the appearance?
Also, I’m emailing the original designer right now to check out this thread to see what he thinks.
I only made this version because you asked for it. I personally don’t like it and feel the giant logo makes the wallet look cluttered looking and repetitive, since we already have a small version in the upper left corner.
