Potential Peerunity Logos: Version 2

For some background, we need to come up with a logo for Peerunity, which is currently planned to be a merged Peercoin/Peershares client. At first we thought it was the simple issue of merging the gold Peercoin logo and the silver Peershares logo to create Peerunity’s logo. We found out the problem with this line of thinking is that as more “Peer Programs” get released under the “Peer Family” in the future, their functionality will all be merged into Peerunity.

Each new program that gets released would use a different colored logo, so the gold/silver Peerunity logo would soon become outdated. Because of this, we needed to figure out a way to future proof the logo. Some people came up with different ideas in the previous thread. I had my designer make them into reality. Please read the descriptions for each one to understand the reasoning behind it and how it fits with Peerunity…

[size=18pt]1. Black Version[/size]

If you mix a bunch of colors together, what color do you end up with? Black is the end result. If each “Peer Program” has a different colored logo and those logos get mixed together or “united,” you end up with a black Peerunity logo.

[size=18pt]2. Dark Grey Version[/size]

Rather than using a pitch black version, here is a dark grey version.

This is something extra the designer threw in. I don’t particularly like the color used.

[size=18pt]4. Transparent Golden Circle Version[/size]

This was River333’s idea. It’s a version which removes the coin imagery, but leaves it looking similar. The background is transparent, leaving only the P and a golden ring around it. You could think of it as a circle that encompasses the entire “Peer Family,” or the golden ring that brings together all the different peer projects.

My opinion, I was excited over the idea of the black version at first, but I don’t think I like it as much now that I see it. I much prefer the dark gray version and I think it works better when applied to lighter backgrounds. As I said above, the brown version was just an extra the designer threw in. I don’t like it though.

My favorite here is the transparent version with the golden ring around it. As River said in the previous thread, “You could think of it as a circle that encompasses the entire “Peer Family,” or the golden ring that brings together all the different peer projects.” The idea behind it just makes sense to me. It can also be applied to quite a number of different backgrounds. This is the one I’m choosing.

I also think the dark gray version could work here, but I’d actually rather leave that color for another “Peer Program” that comes out in the future. If we don’t use the transparent version here with Peerunity, we can’t really use it for anything else because it wouldn’t make sense. The idea behind the circle uniting all the programs fits Peerunity, but nothing else. On the other hand, I don’t see any reason why we couldn’t use the dark grey version for another program. What do you all think?

Note: if we can’t achieve consensus on any of these designs, then we’re probably going to run out of time. We only have until the middle of the week. It will take my designer until that time to finish everything for whatever version we choose. So I hope everyone likes something here or we’re in trouble.

Same here, vote for transparent one. Agree with your reasons Sentinelrv and River333’s circle of inclusion and it provides the flexibility to use it with many backgrounds. Good work!

In future we can even animate the ring, turning it around the Logo in 3d.

So many good choices! I can’t decide. We will use what Sentinelrv says is the community favorite.

Well, so far the transparent logo with the golden circle is winning. I want to leave this open to see what David and Ben think before I commit to it and have Lightning make up the full set.

I like it. My only comment would be that on some backgrounds a very light fill (rather than completely transparent) would enhance the design, but we could include that on a situational basis).

Thanks for creating and putting forward these options

I see two potential disadvantages with the transparent version:

First, how does a person know which of the three logos it is intended to be: Peercoin (gold), Peershares (silver), or Peerunity (no colour at all)? Without its own colour, Peerunity becomes unrepresented

Second, we do not know what backdrop the logo will have in a future situation. We are allowing a future designer to invade the logo’s inner space - and this can compromise it, just as easily as enhance it. The logo becomes a plaything

I prefer the black logo with the gold P and ring. It is simple and visibly distinct from the gold and silver logos

My opinion shouldn’t be given any more weight than anyone elses, but I agree that the transparent version would work well. I think the black doesn’t quite work with that design.

The animation would look great as the client is starting up and loading, but that can be for a future release.

Alright, it looks like it’s overwhelmingly in favor of the transparent version. Let me talk to Lightning and have him make up the full set. It should be ready in time for Peerunity.

Although there seems to be a favour for the transparent version already, I want to say that it is my favourite as well.
I like the way it can “unite” with different backgrounds. That makes more of it than just a unity between Peercoin and Peershares!
But whatever it will be in the end: I’ll be glad with it as long as it is a bit different from the Peercoin logo (what seems to be a prerequisite :wink: ).
You have my vote for not only the transparent version with golden circle but for all others as well.
