There’s the coin, now the shares. Is there someone working on the exchange?
That’s weird. I used this exact name the other day as an example to my graphic designer about a possible future peer program. It’s too bad the domain name is already taken. It would be a great place for people to be able to trade Peercoins and Peershares. Maybe we should pay close attention to the decentralized exchange that NXT is launching. See the countdown timer on their website, 13 days and 7 hours until launch as of this posting…
The problem I see with a decentralized exchange for Peercoin is that they often result in increased blockchain bloat, which many people here may object to. That’s why I am wondering whether it would be possible to create a new blockchain, maybe using Peershares, that would be used for the exchange. Something similar to Mastercoin or colored coins could possibly be built on top of it. Since there has already been some cooperation between Peercoin and Mastercoin with the Omniwallet, it would be interesting to see if that could be extended.
Yes, it’s very important we don’t do something that would increase the size of the blockchain. We’d have to figure out a way to get around that.
Laymen architecture would call the Peercoin block chain a kind of reference for the contents that need to be saved elsewhere.
This “elsewhere” could very well be a different block chain.
Transactions at such a decentralized exchange could be done inter-“block chain” or intra-“block chain”.
Maybe I get the whole Peershares concept still plain wrong; but isn’t it already prepared for exchanging shares?
Or can shares only be transferred within the same block chain?
I mean, the shares reference to Peercoin addresses. Why not transfer them?

afaik shares can only be transferred within the same blockchain, every peershare organisation/company will have their own blockchain (and wallet?)
Can only be transferred within the same block chain due to implementation or due to limitations that prevent from doing that?
The decentralized exchange “only” needed to transfer shares from and to the Peershares’ block chains…
The exchange might utilize an own block chain for that.
Effectively this would be some kind of “coloured coins” concept, but with its own (bloating!) block chain and not piggybacking on an existing one. But as this peerexchange could as well consist of more than just one block chain (running in different instances of exchanges) on demand, this would not necessarily become a problem. In fact it would be much like Peershares.
But maybe I’m talking just nonsense

I had put my bets on making the Omniwallet ready for peercoins. This is basically a decentral exchange with it’s own blockchain as far as I understand the concept. Unfortunately development for Peercoin is slow as Omniwallet developers have other priorities since a few months. I think the issue is when to fork this and then take development in our own hands. BTW this well funded (5000 PPC) and on peer4commit.com. We just need one or more developers with time to pull this off.
I would like it, if the peerexchange did not build on top of a blockchain. I think it would be preferable to create something that allows for high-frequency trading activity. Open Transactions, promises something down that line but who knows when they deliver. I’m sure they are doing their best, but there is nothing bad about competition and some diversification in this space I think.
Since both Peercoin and Peershares support multi-sig, atomic operations should be possible I guess. I’m not sure how Peershares should plug into the system though, since each share type would be its own feed and preferably it should be possible to submit new type of shares on the fly.
High-frequency trading and no blockchain make new approaches necessary if this shall be a decentralized exchange…
…is high-frequency trading more important than being decentralized?
Maybe there’s need/room for more than one type of exchange…

My opinion is that decentralized exchange is more important, without a doubt. High freq, will then add liquidity. I
I share your opinion. Decentralized exchanges suit the whole crypto coin philosophy very well and are necessary to liberate the world from its financial shackles!

I’ve not studied the code, but perhaps there’s something there. At least they won a price for it and Mr. T. ain’t stupid. http://www.coindesk.com/darkmarket-alternative-launches-friendlier-title-openbazaar
