Peercoin network map

Hi everybody,

I’ve been working during the last few days on an automated Peercoin network scanner to be able to build maps like the ones you can see below :

Peercoin active full nodes
http://cryptocities.appspot.com/peercoin-fullnodes.html

Connections to Peercoin network in Europe over the last 7 days
http://cryptocities.appspot.com/peercoin-allnodes.html

It will cost me between $3 and $5 each month in hosting fees to keep the service working at current network size.

I’ll try to publish all the data on Google Fusion Tables (as it is currently) or some other freely available mean.

Any help and suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Good work, looks nice. I think we need a place where we can link to all these gems including yours.

Re suggestions:
maybe you can add some totals to the map. Bragging with the number of active nodes is good, we just need to explain to users why
or maybe building statistics with history showing growth of nodes?

cool! what does the number in connected: means?

cool stuff, although i can’t find my nodes (two, both full, different locations)

actually you should be happy! you are safe from theft or other illicit activities ;D

I’ll try to explain how my peercoin network scanner works :

I’ve started by calling the getaddr command on my own full node: I got the maximum of 1000 IP adresses with their last connection date.
I then called this same getaddr command on those 1000 nodes, most of them were inaccessible (not full node), but found a few full nodes.
I then restarted the whole process for all the new full nodes found.

After a few days of processing, about 60 000 IP addresses have been scanned. Lots of them are from people with dynamic IP addresses changing frequently.

Every night, I call the getaddr command on all the full nodes that have been known to be active over the last 7 days.

I some of you guys don’t find their full node on the map, you can PM me your nodes IP addresses so I can check if they are present in the database.

If you have any questions or ideas about the project, just chime in.

It’s the unix timestamp of the node last known connection to the network (returned by the getaddr command).

Very nice! Is it possible to make a map over all active nodes?

It’s on my roadmap

This map http://cryptocities.appspot.com/peercoin-fullnodes.html shows all the active full nodes, is it what you were talking about ?

The other map http://cryptocities.appspot.com/peercoin-allnodes.html shows all the nodes that connected at least once to one active full node during the last 7 days.

Were you thinking about another type of map ?

Thanx a lot

I was thinking about a map that covered both full and partial nodes that are active.

I’m doing a network scan of active nodes once a day, so active would mean “connected to the network during the last 24 hours”.

I have modified the global network map to distinguish between full and partial nodes, full node have a green marker now:

I guess you would like to have a map including only the nodes that were connected during the las 24 hours, am I right?

yes, like a real time connected nodes (either full or not ).

some gosip >:D
cuba and north korea don’t have any nodes! i wonder if they have internet at all
japan and south korea have a small number of nodes, it seems cryptos are not popular? in those technologically advanced countries
kpop/jpop FTW :stuck_out_tongue:

Correct

Correct :)[/quote]

Here it is : http://cryptocities.appspot.com/peercoin-1d-allnodes.html

Very nice!

My pi running fullnode but the ip changes everyday, will it be included?

I have upated the active full nodes map to show the nodes using the old 60003 client version.

http://cryptocities.appspot.com/peercoin-fullnodes.html

It looks like 56 active full nodes are still using the old client version, it’s about 25% of all active full nodes.

Probably, if the new IP address is referenced by other active nodes.
You can PM me some of your node latest IP addresses if you want me to check.

Wow! Mably!

Excellent idea! Great Execution! Keep up the good work!

I applaud you for your talent and efforts, and also I have sent you some PPC to help you.

I love looking at your maps. So interesting.

Seeing all these nodes spread around the world also helps reassure me of the long-term staying power of the Peercoin Network, especially when running on such energy-efficient low-cost hardware as Raspberry Pi.

Thanks Again,

Edit: This is my 200th post and I couldn’t have found a better place to make it!
