Peercoin.net New pages / content / heading links

I would like to propose a few new additions to the Peercoin.net website and thought I would start a thread for the discussion.

With the integration of the new Peercoin header on Peercointalk it was realised that the links most likely need to be updated and reviewed at least. I feel there should be a uniformity across the sites, and Peercoin has a number of additional developments that I feel are worthy of potentially a new heading. I feel we should be linking projects like Peerbox, Peershares, Peer4commit and the Peercointalk Services in the header. I feel the title community is more of a link to the social side (twitter, facebook, reddit etc) and there should be a section separate for additional developments and projects. These are great projects and tools to help people integrate with Peercoin and the sign of active development within the community.

Secondly I would like to propose a Blog or News section on Peercoin.net. This idea was raised in the discussion to migrate to discourse and I think [member=890]Sentinelrv[/member] said he had something like this in mind for the site. I wanted to outline what would bring me back to the site or to leave a tab open to watch or track something. I feel we should have a page dedicated to new Tweets, reddit posts, forum topics, facebook posts within the last week but updated in real time. This page would be populated with all new articles and store the article (so that if someone retweets or reposts the article then it would not be duplicated, or if posted on facebook and reddit, only 1 would show on the news page). The data should be populated via bots or feeds where possible and there should be some good logic that can be added to and constantly improved to subcategorise the articles, but also alow an admin user to move topics to desired sections, so if say a tweet went out about ppc price we would display this under a section titled economics, or a new youtube video on how to build Peercoin from source on windows goes under section for guides or something.

Next I was thinking about the possibility of some ppc charts or stats that we could display on peercoin.net. These could be nice and simple bar charts of money supply, btc-e price current price watch and history etc but most of these kind of charts already exist. What I feel we need is something more designed for the actual day-traders, so something like https://zeroblock.com/ but also showing the depth of the market. This way we could encourage exchanges to provide API’s of their exchanges to help provide this data for the charts if they do not already do so, we should be able to get something up for btc-e and this will help new people see which exchanges stand out from the big listing we have on http://peercoin.net/exchanges as at first glance on this screen I would not know which exchange to trust or which has good volume of PPC available. Yes it may highlight that some exchanges have very little to low volume but it will show which exchanges are willing to develop and listen to our requirements for such charts. This kind of chart and data would be intended to attract traders who are not necessarily interested in the background behind PPC but are looking to leverage PPC against BTC as price swings on the USD for example. The more data and info the better, yes charts are pretty but numbers are important to. The only concern I have here is the storing of the data and how quickly we may end up with a mass of data that slows the loading of the site or that page and that we do not use up all the space on the server, agreed easy to get more but this is something that would need to be monitored or thought out and calculated.

Any thoughts suggestions?

All sounds good to me, except the idea about integrating charts. I think people can just use services like:

ok yep this is what I was thinking as I never bookmarked this link and could not find it… can we not imbed an iframe of this on the site? or at least link it more prominantly from the site. The idea of charts came from the remembrance of one of the early charts for ppc going offline and that was the only place that had the history of the PPC price and trade volumes and now it gone :frowning: but also these updating charts add a reason for the person to come back to the site or use it, I would for example have a tab of peercoin open to watch the live market price and market status, just a thought and I am happy now as i have the link

Making a chart page with a collection of links might be a good idea.

yeh i’d be up for that, we can add this gem i only just found… that apparently has been around forever :stuck_out_tongue: https://bitinfocharts.com/ :slowpoke:

;D

An idea that was suggested before Christmas was to change the Wallet link at the top right of every page to Resources - this would be a drop-down link to two pages - Wallets (leading to the current wallet page) and Tools, listing block explorers, peerchain, etc.

(a disadvantage is that we lose the direct wallet button on the menu - however, there is still a prominent Wallet link on the Homepage itself, and I think most people looking for a wallet would explore “Resources”, anyway)

I do not know whether such a drop down link would accommodate Fuzzy’s suggested additions, or whether they need to be linked via “Developers”

Just wanted to say that I haven’t posted in this thread yet because I needed a break.

but … but … your status on the forum is “No Life But Peercoin” :stuck_out_tongue:

I just wanted to post some ideas while they were fresh and i had some time and encourage some discussion

hmm yeh now u mention this I was reading through going yes resources would work and accomodate the idea of Peerbox, Peer4commit etc… oh but then yeh we wouldn’t have direct download link, but there is one on the homepage of peercoin.net anyway is there not… oh that what u wrote :stuck_out_tongue: ha

Then I was like… where does the wallet link take you… to a page to choose you download type… its not a direct link as many people have different OS and hence u need to pick the right one u want… so they i was like what do other communities do?

https://bitcoin.org - no wallet link in header, have a header like we do, button to Get Started with Bitcoin takes you to page where the 2nd option is “choose your wallet” https://bitcoin.org/en/choose-your-wallet Nice layout then on this page and select type of device etc as more wallets available than others

https://nubits.com/ - Have a box outlined in the header on far right to “Download Wallet” links to page with sha256sums for proof of download on each os

https://litecoin.org/ - No header, links to download Litecoin-Qt all on main page, table of 2x3. Simple design and unconfusing but not as elegant like the bitcoin site… seems more practical or like a sourceForge download. Adds GPG sigs - real nice touch need to this kinda thing more

http://dogecoin.com/ - Personally i really like the use of different icons and buttons for each download on the site, as simple and they lead you to get started with dogecoin with your os, the next popup shows you a choice of the two types of wallet they have and has links to explain how to get started etc. Nice but quite different and no other obvious links or info on the site at first glance really once if i had a wallet there i would not be looking more on the site

https://www.feathercoin.com/ Ha they roll with the “Resources” and links under to download wallet… good example of what the suggestion from RobertLoyd might look like

http://namecoin.info/ - they go for a “download” link direct in the header so similar to what we currently have.

https://www.darkcoin.io/ - they go for a “download” link direct in the header so similar to what we currently have.

so kinda interesting to see but not sure if that helped me decide :stuck_out_tongue: i think it fine to not have the wallet link in the header… especially as we linking to the Peercoin CLIENT not a wallet… it contains a wallet but technically its a client download or the Peerunity client etc hence why most have said a Download link… some of the more potential ‘scamcoins’ seem to link them as wallets as opposed to client or download so i feel we should refrain from the term wallet unless we link to the paper wallets etc as well
