I have a Raspberry Pi 2 which I am using as my media center, and I can tell you that it’s significantly faster than the Pi B and B+. It’s well worth the investment especially given that it’s at the same price point as the B+. It’s a no brainer.
That said, I run Peerunity on a Pi B non+ on top of Raspbian, and it works extremely well so the Pi 2 is not required at all.
For anyone looking to set up a node on a budget, hit eBay for people that are dumping B and B+ models for cheap. Right now, I don’t see that happening because the Pi 2 is still relatively hard to get a hold of, so the demand for Pi is still up.
