I got hold of the designer (Lightning) who made our logo for Peercoin and I asked him to make us a logo for Primecoin also. I specifically directed him to make the Primecoin logo similar to the previous one, so that our branding remains consistent. Hopefully you can tell just from the appearance of the logo that it’s one of Sunny’s coins.
Lightning is going to need feedback. If anything needs to be altered, let me know. Keep in mind that this isn’t part of a contest. I’m paying him to do this myself, so it might cost more if I start to ask him for a bunch of alterations. Click on the image to make them full size. What do you think?
To the Primecoin guys, you’re going to have to take this over. We can’t feature the Primecoin logo at the top of this forum until a finalized high quality version is made that everybody is happy with, just as we did with the Peercoin logo.
I can’t afford to have Lightning keep designing this. I have enough on my plate with all the Peercoin graphics we need, so either someone with graphic design skills is going to have to step up, or you’re going to have to hire Lightning yourself. His fee is $35 an hour. You can contact him at 99designs. Here is his profile…
Just tell him that you wanted to get his email so he could work some more on the Primecoin logo. You’re going to have to pay him yourself or collect money from the Primecoin community. I STRESS this though, Sunny King has to be included in the design process. If Sunny isn’t happy with the final design, then we shouldn’t use it. The ball is in your court guys.
Yes, I do need feedback for him. I thought it might be a little too plain also, but I’m not sure what could be added. I messaged Sunny to get his opinion.
I personally like the 2nd better because it has more ‘harmony’ throughout, as the thickness of the center image lines matches the thickness of the outer rim line. The other thing that stood out right away was ‘too plain’. It has only one color going on. It needs something more to give it more pizazz and uniqueness. More contrast (some deeper darks and lighter lights) or another color added perhaps (or both). The Peercoin logo is ‘elevated’ because of that gorgeous green leaf making a stark, jewel-like contrasting element. This Primecoin logo needs something to also ‘kick it higher’ visually. I don’t know what. For one, black comes to mind. Black looks good with gold. Maybe black can be introduced somehow (that will add a lot of contrast).
Those were my personal, initial thoughts at any rate. But already an improvement to me. :)
I’ve actually been thinking about this all day. The rim around the coin could remain the same color gold as well as the Primecoin symbol, but the inner background could be black, creating contrast and making the symbol pop out at you. I think it would look awesome!
I don’t know if having the same style logo as ppc is a good idea. I would like to see something more ‘math-like’. Also the color scheme is too similar to ppc logo.
I like the 1st one a little bit better. I think we need a balance between PPC and XPM. We have to acknowledge that they are from the same community and creator, but at the end of the day they are two separate coins. I think the logos should have similarities, but have distinct differences.
So narrow it down to two this:
Logo needs to have some clear indication that it is math based or prime number based.
Perhaps the Primecoin logo needs to be silver. We might want to do the some comparison like (Gold)Bitcoin -> (Silver)Litecoin, but with (Gold)Peercoin -> (Silver)Primecoin
At least with Peercoin, Sunny wanted to stay away from labeling it as the silver to Bitcoin’s gold. I’m not sure how he feels about this with Primecoin though. I made up a very rough version of a black and gold coin in paint and showed it to Excelsior. We both thought it looked good, so I asked Lightning to make up his own version. I’ll post that when it’s done.
I think it might look cool to feature a spiral like that in the background, but I have a couple issues with it. I’m not sure if people would associate that with prime numbers. I didn’t even know what the pictures meant. I don’t know if the spiral pattern would even be visible at smaller sizes like 64x64, 32x32, definitely not 16x16.
Anyway, I mentioned having Lightning create a black and gold logo before. Here was the rough version I made in paint to show him what I was talking about…
Now it seems that Lightning didn’t do exactly what I asked him to do. He created more of a gray/silver and gold coin. My complaint is that it might be a little too reflective over the gray part to the right of the coin. If anyone would still like to see a black and gold version, I could ask him to make it much darker like the version I made above. Just let me know and I’ll tell him.
Have you considered adding prime numbers within the logo? I’m thinking slightly faded but giving it more of a mathematics representation.
Where would you add them? Again, the only thing I’m concerned about with adding extra things like this into the logo is if you’d even be able to see them once the logo has been shrunk in size. A smaller Primecoin logo will be shown many many more times than a larger one ever will, so the question is whether it’s worth putting something into the logo that may not even be visible most of the time.
Another thing I’m concerned about is wearing out my welcome with Lightning. He’s only charging me $99 right now, but that was to make the first 2 images. I don’t know how many more he’s willing to make for us. We may have to wait until the art team is assembled to finish this.
thinking out of the box, maybe it is an idea to make them square (the coins)? you get a little bit more area to fill with some design, and it is a bit more original
I paid Lightning for the work he did so far and told him we’d get back to him when we figured out what we wanted to do. Hopefully when we get the teams together, we’ll have some artistic people who can think something up. I think this was a good start.
Put a crown above or in the background of the letter, and a chain of jewels below it. Prime number theory is often associated with the crown jewel of mathematics. Primecoins are found with chains of primes.
I only paid him for the work he’s done so far, so probably not until I get back to him with a better idea of what we want. I figured I’d let the art team build and we can figure this out later.
