I’ve been using this guide to get started: http://www.peercointalk.org/index.php?topic=316.0 (Thx by the way !) and I’ve been mining for a full week with a primepersec rate of roughtly 300 and when I got back there was simply 0.00 XPM on my account…
I just wanted to know if it was normal and I’ve been a foul thinking that I could get XPM so easily or if there is a problem with my miner…
I am a new miner…I have been mining solo for about 24 hours and the software says valid shares 160. I have no idea if this means I have found some coins. Nothing has shown up in my wallet. I can’t find a thing on the board that explains what a share is and how long it takes to get coins if you find some. But, I keep mining on blind faith. I would sure feel better if someone would Give me the scoop on shares, coins, and when one gets paid.

The guide you followed is very out of date. It is for solo mining on a very very unoptimized, and strangely re-hosted version of the source code.
The problem you are experiencing is that even with a faster client and computer that the difficulty is so high that you will not mine anything for days. With a slow client and a slow computer it could take well over a month to mine a block. If you don’t mine a block with solo mining you get nothing.
Like Fuzzy said, you should do pool mining. You get paid based on your computing power instead of how lucky your are at finding a block. So even if you don’t find a block you will get paid for trying. I would recommend http://rapidprime.com because of their good uptime and very optimized miner. If you need help setting it up, feel free to message me. I can recommend you to other pools but I will just call out YPool for being shit. They have exorbitant fees, 6% (3% pool fee, 3% miner fee), considering they have terrible uptime and the client crashes frequently. There is no justification to pay either the dev or the pool that much.

It sounds like you are using a pool miner. All of the pools consider those shares “credit” towards getting paid in primecoins. The shares have different values. If you find higher difficulty shares they will be worth more. So when you find enough shares with enough value you will get paid. Usually when you accumulate 1 primecoin you will get paid.
I have never joined a pool…I am solo mining. This session valid shares 161…6ch=147…7ch=18…8ch=1
I put setgenerate true -1 and my wallet address. It is cranking away through blocks. How does one determine the coins that will be sent and how long does it take to get them.
If you are solo mining then only the shares that solve a block will reward you with coins.
I am curious as to how you are seeing submitted shares as that is generally only a function of pool miners. Could you describe your setup, including mining software you are running?
I’m using Primecoin\gpoolMiner-T17v8.exe on a Dell 760 intel 2 duo e8400 3 ghz 4 gb on suddenlink the software loads a black box with what is running and stats.
dusty, you should get better performance with primecoin-hp rather than primecoin or most pool miners & you don’t need to use a pool miner if you use setgenerate true -1. Those shares you’re seeing aren’t blocks, you need 10chains to find blocks.
I discovered I was mining in gpool, which doesn’t require any registration. When I decided to join a pool I discovered all my results sitting there waiting for me. I was running their software and the solomining software at the same time.
