Block Rewards and Difficulty

Do you guys think that Primecoin block rewards should be higher when you find chains that are higher than the current difficulty? That will encourage miners to seek the largest possible chain lengths. I’m not sure if there is an difference in benefit to finding longer chains, though.

Discuss.

Even you find longer chains you still get the same reward, as shown by the block explorers.

If you find a chain longer than the target length you are guaranteed to get a reward, while if you “only” find the target length there is a good chance you don’t get a reward (e.g. at 10.41 difficulty there is a 41% chance your 10 chain will not be rewarded). So finding long chains is already rewarded more generally.
Of course you could argue that there is no advantage in finding 12-chains compared with finding 11-chains when the target length is 10. The answer would be that finding 12-chains is 100 - 1000 times unlikely than finding 10 chains. The benefit of over rewarding longer chains is minimal
