[ANN] Peerbox project

Average load seems fine, do you mint on this Peerbox?

Nope, I’ve just installed the latest Peerbox as it is.

Ok, do not worry everything seems fine as long as avg. load is <1.

I can confirm that I get similar load with a raspi-b running peerbox 0.21, when connection is above 30. minting adds about 7% CPU load. The temperature rises by about 2-3 C.

Thanks for the info!

I am surprised that the open post didn’t say anything about how to mint. With peerunity’s GUI start minting from the command line starts to become a lost art. I suggest put something like my instruction. It would be nice if peerbox has a mint command like this (note the quote around $passphrase).

Peerbox has a script to help minting for a week or so; https://github.com/peerchemist/Peerbox/blob/master/PKGBLD/mintbox/mintbox.py

It will be included in next release.

peerchemist, thanks again for the great work on Peerbox; here are the two mirrors

Hey guys, I have two rasp pi with peerbox in it

1 is a full node with port forwarding

2 is minting without port forwarding

Is peerbox safe for minting when used in a separate rasp pi without port forwarding?
If not what is the security issue here?

no problems with that setup

one thing you could consider, but not really necessary, use connect=ip of your fullnode rpi , instead of addnode, this will keep the connections at 1 for your minting device… , i think, may need to verify that

true

Thanks, it worked like a charm

mintbox command prints out a warning saying something to the effect it is not recommended to use peerbox to mint. Is that the official position or I misunderstood it?

@willywithcoinnode I would very much welcome such a Peerbox setup video

I think just the peerbox as a single product is not worth dealing with the hassle of international shipment, consumer rights, costums and so on.
We would need an existing online shop with international shipment experience, who would distribute such a specialized r-pi.

Does anybody know someone :D?

In the meantime a step by step video tutorial for setting up the peerbox should help. I could make one, if anybody want’s it :)[/quote]

Let’s wait for some more developments
If Peerchemist says the word I’ll fire it up.

Yes, it is official position.
Not that I claim it is insecure or something, but it is just not tested enough and still lacking some security features.
What is most important it is still lacking tools for easier management by end user.
So, it is best to say flash it and plug it in for running a node then writing complex tutorials for stuff that is about to change.

Let’s wait for some more developments

willy, please hold on with that until I publish something. Something big.
I’m not sure when it will be ready, but I’m actively working on it.
