Rainforest imagery for website and branding of peercoin

I’m going a bit crazy on here today so tell me to shut up if necessary.

I’ve heard other talk about using nature photos. What do you all thinking about rainforest imagery, such as the below image, being a key part of the brand? I like rain forest as opposed to other nature photos for two reasons:

  1. Rainforests tend to be the most potent symbols for the environment and thus reinforces the ecological benefits of peercoin.

  2. Rainforests tend to be the most potent symbols of diversity and this reinforce the idea that by using peercoin you are encouraging a health environment of virtual currencies.

Thoughts? If you all like maybe we can have super3 replace the wood panel photo on peercoin.net.

As much as I love rainforests, I would steer clear of having large images of it as the first impression on a website. People expect financial instruments to be the epitome of professionalism, and unfortunately I think a lot of people would think that we’re selling Hippy-coins or some other pie in the sky idea.

Green branding can still convey the quality of technology though - I love the branding/layout used by Google in particular: http://www.google.ca/green/bigpicture/

What are your thoughts?

Hmmmm. Yeah, I don’t disagree with you. Nature photos can convey the hippy thing and take away from the professional/financial instrument thing. But Google’s branding is heavily dependent on the hand drawn figures - which are kind of hippyish, btw.

I’m definitely open to whatever the community wants but I do think we need to make a pairing of the logo with some sort of imagery that we can use throughout the material - and photography gives us the fastest cheapest way to do that.

Or maybe can somebody to draw a thing or two for us?

Thanks for the feedback!

I actually tried taking a nature photo and putting the logo over top of it a couple weeks ago, but it didn’t match up too well and felt like there was too much going on in the background, so I never posted it on here.

I think you’re right that imagery can quickly convey brand attributes that we want Peercoin to be associated with, and that it’s important to think of some.

I was thinking about this while eating lunch some more. What about something like a digital rainforest? If we could get someone to create a living, breathing ecosystem of trees that look like they have electronics/circuits/energy flowing through.

Edit: Some brainstorming ideas… (just to warm up the creative juices)

Ahh… now, we’re talking. I like the plasma tree especially, though I’m not sure about the colors. It could probably use a bit more to it as well…

Hi, how about something like this but instead of a bulb you could have a coin? just an idea

I’d say keep the site clean and professional. Flat and modern design I’d say.

Just an opinion though

I’d say solid/pure color is better, just like the background in your mobile phone or the background of the wall at your home.

I recommend Smartisan OS’s UI design principle, and here is the news report: http://www.engadget.com/2013/04/01/smartisan-os-luo-yonghao/

I was just reinstalling Windows 7 on my brother’s PC and noticed the background loading screen. I was thinking maybe something similar would work for a banner, the blue sky in the background with a similar style of green leaves, just without all the curvy lines. The leaves and Peercoin logo would be on the right of the banner and the left side would be blue open space where the text could go. The placement would fit the current design we have right now. Just an idea. Click for a larger view…

The rainforest image is an idea for some nice background, but has too much details for a brand.

I think something in this style would look perfect. Green screen rather than blue perhaps though?

Well if the background was green then the leaves around the logo would merge into the background and not be as noticeable, unless we don’t include the leaves. I’m talking about a bunch of leaves similar to the style of the one in the picture I posted on the right side by the logo.

Those are great design ideas - blue sky-ish background and green leaves etc. But they require a designer. Right? If any of you all know somebody that can design something I would think that would be great.

In the short term, though, I think it would be wise to drop that wood paneling for something else.

Ideas just on that point?

how about something like this : http://www.hdwpapers.com/nature_plants_green_grass_wallpaper-wallpapers.html

how about narwhal, they are cool, everybody loves them, and they symbolize living nature.

change that text to PeerCoin

Narwhals are awesome! However, I think they get overused in the technology space. If we really do want clean/professional design we may want to stay away from the unicorn of the sea here.

I’m a designer if I can be of any help let me know. www.hireahenchman.co.nz
